4 Bedroom house · 54 Short Street, Bendigo

Cobb & Co House

A very large heritage house with a retro streak — comfortable, fun, and big enough to sleep ten with space to spare. The Sacred Heart Cathedral sits behind the verandah, and the Ulumbarra Theatre is a walk away.

The house

Room for everyone — and room to get away from everyone.

Booking a 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom home in Bendigo's CBD is a rare thing, and this one is rarer still: high ceilings, original cast-iron fireplaces, stained glass above the doors, and a long hallway that runs the length of the place. It has been furnished with a sense of humour rather than a colour scheme, which is exactly why people come back.

There's a full kitchen, a large dining and lounge area, an outdoor space with a BBQ, and a proper laundry with a washer, dryer and ironing board — the detail that separates a house you can actually live in for a week from a house you're camping in.

And because it's us rather than a platform, we leave a coffee pod machine stocked with coffee and hot chocolate pods, and long-life milk in the fridge, so you can ponder the day before anyone has to go out for supplies. Free Wi-Fi is included, and all linen and towels are provided.

Groups & occasions

One house beats four motel rooms. Every time.

There's a particular kind of trip where everyone ends up in the kitchen at 11pm, and a motel corridor can't give you that. This house can.

Weddings & wedding parties

Get everyone ready under one roof, in the middle of town, with three bathrooms and a kitchen that can handle breakfast for ten.

Reunions & milestone birthdays

Extended family, old friends, a significant birthday. Everyone gets a bed and nobody gets a bill for four separate rooms.

Festival weekends

Writers Festival, a run of shows at the Ulumbarra, a major exhibition at the gallery. Walk home together afterwards and keep talking about it.

Cooking for a crowd

A full kitchen, a large dining area and a BBQ outside. Far cheaper than ten dinners out, and considerably more fun.

Teams on a project

Corporate bookings run in 14-day blocks. Put the whole crew in one house rather than scattering them across town.

Visiting family in town

One guest booked the house for a big family get-together — ten people up to visit family in Bendigo, close to town, with plenty of parking. That's exactly what this house is for.

Photographs

Bedrooms, bathrooms, the lounge, the kitchen and the laundry — all of it photographed in the actual house at 54 Short Street.

54 Short Street, Bendigo

Right in the CBD.

This large home is located right in the heart of the Bendigo CBD. You can walk to the Ulumbarra Theatre or to any of the many fabulous restaurants without moving the car — and if there are ten of you, not needing to organise two carloads for dinner is worth more than you'd think.

Shops, facilities and sights are all on the doorstep. Close to Australian gold rush history, Chinese history, the art gallery in Pall Mall and the rest of it. Eat out at the sidewalk restaurants, pick your favourite Italian or Chinese, or just walk to one of Bendigo's great cafes after the gallery.

A review of this house

From a group of eight.

“Stayed at Cobb & Co House in Short Street Bendigo. Great place to stay, close to everything in Bendigo and landlords were incredibly helpful. Supplied milk, juice, tea coffee, muesli, everything to get started. Place was clean and comfortable, heating and cooling etc. Recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in Bendigo.”
